Street Legal Scooters

Finding A Better Transport Alternative in Street Legal Scooters

Street legal scooters are quite becoming a common sight in many streets and highways in the US. They don’t carry a lot of weight, unlike regular motorcycles, and they are also easier to maneuver.

Plus, scooters are light to the pocket and they do not consume a lot of gas. Such would explain why these street legal mopeds are fast becoming the more preferred choice of transport of many Americans.

What Are Street Legal Scooters?

Street legal scooters are scooters that have successfully passed the safety requirements of the Department of Transportation and the Environment Protection Agency. They must come with a certificate of origin. They must also be registered and insured. When you have all of these requirements, your scooter is considered safe to use and you can drive it around the town, to the school and even on highways.

Different states may have different laws regarding the legality of the use of scooters. There are certain states that do not require the rider to have a driver’s license before he can board the scooter, but other states may not be so lenient. Therefore, before you take your scooter on the road, take time to make inquiries with your local authorities first.

Cheap Street Legal Scooters

With fuel prices going up, and in the light of the environmental and economic crises, people are indeed looking for cheaper transport alternatives, and many of them find hope in street legal scooters. What’s great about these scooters is that you don’t just get to save money and the environment, but you can also avoid traffic as you can easily weave your way in and out of traffic jams.

Different Types of Street Legal Scooters

Scooters come in a variety of styles and engine capacity. Typically, the range can be between 150 cc and 800 cc. When looking for a street legal scooter to buy, there are certain things you need to consider; among these are your riding experience, preference and budget. If you are just starting out with not enough riding experience to boast, it may not be practical to buy an expensive or brand new scooter. You can perhaps, start off with a second hand scooter first, and consider getting a brand new one only when you have already mustered enough skill and confidence.

Not All Scooters Are Street Legal

Sometimes, in the midst of all the excitement, people tend to forget that not all street scooters are street legal. Apparently, this should be the first thing you need to make sure of before boarding your scooter and “painting the town red”. Assuming that it is, it does not mean that you are free to use it without wearing the necessary protective gear yourself and taking the essential safety precautions.

Wearing of helmets is a must when driving your scooter around, never mind if you are just going around the corner or to school. It does not matter where you go. You need to have a helmet on while riding a scooter. Then of course, before you go, make sure that your brakes are working properly, as well as your headlights, backlights and signal lights.
